COVID-19 and the ECL

June 22nd, 2020 | Posted by Communications Director in News - (0 Comments)

COVID-19 has changed the way that we interact with our community. As activity slowly returns to normal in Alberta, the Ellerslie Community League is planning our next steps for community activities. At this time we are supporting our community online through activities and information on our Facebook page.

We want to ensure our community’s safety is our #1 priority. We will be continually reassessing whether we can begin reinstating small community activities like Movie Nights as the summer progresses. As it stands right now, we do not have a time frame for these activities to resume.

Watch our website or our Facebook page for updates on when activities will begin!

Stay Safe! – Your ECL Board

The Ellerslie Community League 2015 Annual General Meeting is taking place at Grace Point Church on Saturday, November 28, and everyone who lives in our community is welcome and encouraged to join us.

We’re starting with a free catered meal at 5:30 p.m., followed by the AGM at 6:30 p.m. While the AGM is going on, we’ll be showing a supervised movie for the kids in another room. Once the AGM business has been taken care of, we’re hosting a community forum, where residents can share their ideas on how to make our community an even better place to live.

You don’t need a league membership to attend; however, you do need one to have a vote, and we need at least ten voting members there who aren’t part of the board in order to hold the meeting. If you’d like to purchase a membership ($25 for the whole family for the year), you can contact Christine Lim (, buy one at the meeting, or buy one online at

Please contact Denie Goulet ( or post a comment here if you have any questions. This event is a great opportunity to get involved with your community and meet your neighbours, and we hope to see lots of people there!

Our favorite summer program is being held over this fall, in Ellerslie Crossing Park. The programming will be focused on nature, and runs Monday and Wednesday and Saturday afternoons.
We are very pleased and proud that the City of Edmonton has chosen our park to be one of their sites for this great fall programming.

Just a quick housekeeping note, the monthly movie nights are being postponed through the summer months as the great weather and full schedules through the summer are leading to low attendance. We will be resuming Movie Nights in the fall, starting with Community League Day on September 19th.

Family time is important and very enjoyable outdoors, especially in the summer. To display the benefit of a League Membership, The Ellerslie Community League is pleased to present free admission to the following outdoor pools during these time slots (except Holidays) for your family:

Despite inclement weather threatening our efforts, approximately 26 volunteers helped clean our two park sites. The playgrounds and surrounding areas were cleared of garbage, cigarette butts, and any visible dangerous items to ensure a pleasing and safe experience in our parks. It was really nice to see parents setting great examples for their children as 14 of our volunteers were children. We put all our helping hands to good use, to help make a difference. Coffee and hot chocolate, and Tim Bits were enjoyed, as well as Panago Pizza when we were done.

Many thanks to the following Volunteers:

Denie Goulet, Community League President
Amanda Goulet, Community League Treasurer
Gerry Pasternak, Community League Civics Director
Christine Lim, Community League Membership Director
Gemma Dunn, Community League Fundrasing Director
Corey Teeple, Community League Communications Director

The Lemaire Family
The Goulet Children
The Lim Children
The Dunn Children
The Samur Family
The Rasmussen Family
The Spears Family
The Dukta Family

Approximately 17 bags of trash were removed from the sites, and a number of items cleared to make our parks safer for our over 7,000 residents. Your contributions are very much appreciated.

Blue, in memorial.

Ellerslie Community League is with you. Constable Daniel Woodall was killed in the line of Duty, approximately 8pm, June 8th. You leave behind, your wife and two small children, countless colleagues in the EPS, and a city that will be, forever, in your debt.

God Speed Constable. Ellerslie will remember you. #EPSSTRONG

Spring is finally here, and it’s time to get our parks ready to enjoy for the summer! The Ellerslie Community League Board is making a call for volunteers to help us clean up our two great park sites. Please join your board members and other neighborhood volunteers from 10:00 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 13, at either Charlesworth Park or Ellerslie Crossing Park to help clean up our green spaces. Garbage bags and gloves will be provided by Capital City Clean Up.

Free coffee and donuts will be available for volunteers, and the we will be having a pizza lunch when we finish as well. Extra hands make the job that much easier. So if you have a couple of hours to spare, this is a great opportunity to meet your neighbours, enjoy free coffee, donuts and pizza, as well as help beautify the green spaces we all enjoy. Help take care of YOUR community and we hope to see you there!
